The more I contemplated my role as a pastor the more I came to realize that there was a disconnect between our ministries and the people they were designed to serve. Many of the newcomers to our church were not finding their way into the venues that were specifically designed to provide opportunities to build new relationships. Nor were many visitors, even those with proven ministry backgrounds in other churches, being connected into opportunities for service. Yet, every church growth expert and writer over the past 20 years had distilled the keys of visitor assimilation down to the two central components of relationships and involvement. While our church offered many circles of belonging for newcomers, and had a streamlined path to easy ministry involvement, we needed something more.
