I came to understand that the ministries of the church were essentially delivery systems of varying effectiveness. I realized that a large part of being a pastor meant that I was responsible to develop or empower people around me to develop effective services and connection mechanisms that delivered authentic life-changing ministry to people. The biblical mandate for this is found in Ephesians 4:12 where the job of the pastor is defined as "equipping" Christians so that they can do the work of the ministry. Equipping includes everything from new ministry development, to vision casting, to recruiting, to training and to releasing people into ministry. This is the unique function of the pastor. I, and my pastoral staff, needed to become experts at facilitating the development and design of effective ministry systems.
